Who would of thought that getting into Nursery school was harder than getting into Harvard?

Sick, sad, but true... The most pathetic part is that precisely by pressuring their children to succeed, they are setting them up for failure, depression, and a blatant repulsion to learning. Interesting topic for a documentary, though... :)

i used to work in the public library system in NYC and experienced this first hand on a daily basis. people put their kids on waiting lists the moment they get pregnant!
and yes, this started out as an upper east side and upper west side situation (more affluent neighborhoods in manhattan) but is spreading out as the communities change (as space becomes less and less, people who can afford it are buying property in less affluent areas, renovating, and changing the face of the community brownstone by brownstone, building by building.) the main problem is that the public school system isn't the best (not it's fault! bad funding and low salaries for teachers) so anyone who can afford it wants their child in private school, and that's where the competition begins. the pressure stems from getting into the right college, which means being in the right college prep school ... they only draw from specific elementary or middle schools, which only draw from specific preschools, which only draw from specific nursery schools ... it's a snowball effect that has made it's way down to the poor 3 year olds. NYC also has kids in 3rd grade seeing doctors for anxiety attacks over the 3rd grade standardized tests. it's a whole world onto it's own over there ... you really need to live it to understand it.

This is crazy. Preparatory school shouldn't be hardly traumatic to get into. Definitely unnecessary, even though the parents are filthy rich, the educators behind them shouldn't abuse this fact.

This is really an interesting question, all I could say is, we never found it tough to admit our kids to Nursery!

Crazy!!!

They all looked like wealthy parents to me though. What about the parents that can't afford thousands of dollars a term. I hated all the educators on sight!!!
